Follow these simple do's and don'ts for a happy and accident-free festival.
Do's
- Buy crackers only from licensed, trusted sellers.
- Read the instructions printed on each pack before use.
- Light crackers in an open area, away from houses, vehicles and dry leaves.
- Keep a bucket of water and sand nearby at all times.
- Light the fuse at arm's length with a long incense stick (agarbatti) and step back quickly.
- Wear cotton clothes and closed footwear.
- Make sure an adult supervises children at all times.
- Dip used sparklers and burnt crackers in water before throwing them away.
- Follow the timings and rules set by local authorities in your area.
Don'ts
- Never light crackers indoors or in narrow lanes.
- Never hold a lit cracker in your hand (except sparklers) or put crackers in your pocket.
- Never try to relight a cracker that didn't go off β wait, then soak it in water.
- Never lean over a cracker while lighting it.
- Don't point rockets or aerial shots towards people, buildings or trees.
- Don't wear loose, synthetic or flowing clothes near crackers.
- Don't burst crackers near hospitals, schools, animals or during silent hours.
- Don't let children handle crackers alone.
Minor burns
Cool the area under clean running water for 10β20 minutes. Don't apply ice, butter or toothpaste.
Eye injury
Don't rub the eye. Rinse gently with clean water and see a doctor immediately.
Emergency
For fire, call 101. For an ambulance, call 108 or 112.
